The 'Manteca Mural Society' Story The Manteca Mural Society has been formed in Manteca to use murals as a form of public art to help beautify our town. The murals will depict our town’s history, heritage, geography, and accomplishments. Besides adding to the beauty of our town, it will also help to unite our community. As we all know, the number of new residents that come to our town each decade is mind boggling. Through these murals, we will develop a sense of history and community for all residents, old and new. We believe that quality, public art will enhance our image and build a regional identity. As the number of completed murals grows, regional and international visitors will want to visit our downtown. It is very important that we work to develop that sense of community and working together for the good of all. Our Mission Statement: The Manteca Mural Society will use visual arts to build community pride, to build a cultural bridge between the past, present and future through our historical past, to revitalize, improve and enhance the Manteca economy and to promote tourism. The Manteca Mural Society is a 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit corporation, so your contributions are tax deductible and help beautify our town. The Mural Society commissioned renowned muralist, D. S. Gordon, to design and paint the first mural on the east side of the Century Furniture building at the corner of Main Street and Yosemite Avenue. It was dedicated on June 1, 2003, which was Manteca’s 85th anniversary. Our goal over the next ten years is to create 30 to 40 murals on the blank walls of Manteca. Many civic and business leaders have come together to form the committees necessary to make this vision become a reality. In addition to good people, the proper initial capitalization is important for success. To this end our initial fund raising goal was achieved! Thank you all for your support. Major contributors to the Manteca Mural Society are recognized on a cast bronze “Founder’s Plaque.” The “Founder’s Plaque” is mounted in Veteran's Plaza in ront of the American Legion Hall at 226 E. Yosemite Ave. Also check the 'Founding Members' page to see our community of supporters. We will be happy to provide you any further information that you may need. If you would like to see examples of the changes that murals will make, let us show you our presentation. Please call Tom Wilson at 209-825-4700 or Linda Abeldt 209-823-7229 for more information.
