Meet Our Speakers

Patricia Milich, Public Awareness Co-Ordinator of the California Arts Council (CAC).

Building on her experience as a CAC arts programs manager including inter-agency initiatives and special projects, she now promotes the public value of the arts.  Ms. Milich was the Executive Director of the arts organization that was the precursor to the Center for the Arts, Escondido, a complex of theatres, galleries and art studios anchoring downtown Escondido.  She also served on the Davis Civic Arts Commission for 8 years, was a dancer, has taught at the university level, and has written dance and multi-disciplinary performance criticism.

Joan Sortini, Board Member of the Merced Downtown Strategy Task Force

Ms. Sortini was also on the board of the Merced Redevelopment Agency and the first Downtown Strategy Task Force.  During her 20 years as the Executive Director of the Merced County Arts Council, she spearheaded the effort to renovate and old department store into a three-story multi-faceted art center anchoring the then deteriorating core of the downtown.  She is currently working on the renovation and reuse of the city's landmark theater.  Joan is also a visual artist and former dancer.
